Intro to Woodworking: Build a Joinery Frame (Weekend) - Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2026

£265.00

Venue: Pixmore Business Centre, Letchworth

Day 1 - Saturday 16th May / Day 2 - Sunday 17th May

Time: 10.00am - 4.30pm

Course Description

Over the course of the two days, Steven will guide you through a series of joints designed to develop your woodworking hand skills.

This workshop focuses on learning and practising a selection of classic woodworking joints that form the foundation of many furniture and joinery projects.

Using hand tools such as saws, chisels and planes, you will develop the ability to measure and mark accurately, cut cleanly, and fit joints so they are strong, precise and well finished. We will also look at body positioning and posture at the bench, helping you work comfortably, safely and with better control. The aim is to build confidence at the bench while learning skills you can carry into your own work.

You will be introduced to a range of traditional joints, including:

Half-lap joint
A simple and versatile joint used in framing, cabinet work and general construction. It allows two pieces to join flush without adding thickness.

Mitred half-lap joint
A refined corner joint that combines strength with a clean, angled finish, often used in frames and visible joinery.

Tee halving joint
Commonly used in internal frames, bracing and basic furniture structures where strength and simplicity are key.

Half dovetail joint
A strong mechanical joint used in box and drawer construction, designed to resist pulling apart and provide long-term durability.

Throughout the workshop, materials are sourced where possible from reclaimed or reusable timber. This not only reduces waste, but also gives you the opportunity to work with characterful materials and understand how to adapt when working with previously used wood.

The workshop is practical, hands-on and supportive throughout, with plenty of guidance to help you develop your skills at a comfortable pace.

Price includes all materials, use of tools and equipment, and refreshments throughout the day.
